Access Snellville Public Records

Snellville public records do not sit in one database. City offices keep municipal citations, police reports, permits and code files, while Gwinnett County custodians maintain deeds, court cases, property rolls and probate matters. Georgia agencies control other statewide records and set key disclosure limits. To search Snellville public records well, first decide which government created the document, then choose its portal, counter or written-request channel. That distinction matters because a Snellville mailing address may fall outside the incorporated city. Public access also differs from unrestricted access: some indexes are open, while certificates, sealed files and protected personal fields require eligibility or redaction.

Which Snellville Records Are Public

Access turns on the record set, not just the person's name. Georgia law generally opens existing government records unless a state or federal exemption applies. Yet the keeper may be Snellville, Gwinnett County or Georgia. The table leads with the practical distinction: whether an index exists and what must happen when the web channel stops.

Public does not mean every field appears. Social Security numbers, financial and medical data, month and day of birth, protected addresses and federally guarded motor-vehicle data may be withheld. Juvenile, adoption, sealed and some guardianship material is closed or limited. Vital certificates follow direct-and-tangible-interest rules rather than a blanket age at which every certificate becomes open.

The Snellville Custodian Boundary

Snellville City Hall keeps records created by city departments. That includes municipal citations, Snellville Police incidents, planning and code files, permits and occupational-tax material. Most durable land, court, probate, tax and election records are county functions based in Lawrenceville. The city's open-records instructions separate Municipal Court, Police and other city requests in GovQA.

The postal name can mislead. Addresses using 30039 or 30078 may be outside the incorporated boundary, so the city may not hold a permit or code file for them. Confirm jurisdiction before filing. Planning accepts phone inquiries for permit status and may supply a residential subdivision final plat when given the subdivision name. The legally recorded plat remains with the Gwinnett clerk.

The city request page shows the category route used for Snellville public records:

Choose the creator, not merely the nearest office. GovQA notices arrive from snellvillega@govqa.us, so check spam for a clarification or cost estimate.

Gwinnett Deeds After the Fire

The Gwinnett Deeds and Land Records office records deeds, liens, plats, condominium plans, UCC filings and related instruments. Its verified run begins September 26, 1871. The clerk connects that boundary to the courthouse fire, so it must not be generalized to every county record group.

GSCCCA hosts the public index and images. Its exact live search labels, image prices and result limits were not visible during research. Do not assume that a free index also means a free document image. The reliable offline channel is the clerk at 75 Langley Drive, Lawrenceville, 770-822-8100, weekdays 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; the recording counter closes at 4:30. Mail goes to P.O. Box 2050, Lawrenceville, GA 30046, and the clerk also advertises eCertification.

Index
A finding tool that points to a recorded item; it is not necessarily the full image.
Certified copy
A copy authenticated by the custodian, often with a seal or electronic certificate.
Custodian
The office responsible for holding and responding for a specific record.
Exemption
A legal basis for withholding a record or protected part of it.

Earlier land evidence did not vanish in one sweep. The Gwinnett Historical Society and Georgia Archives hold surviving ledgers, donated deeds and microfilm. That archive route is the practical fallback when a title question crosses the 1871 boundary.

Snellville Property Record Channels

The Gwinnett assessor search accepts parcel number, owner name or property address. The GIS Data Browser adds parcel geometry and modes for owner, PIN, subdivision, condo PIN or map selection. Official GIS guide fields include owner, location address, city, ZIP and tax district.

The Tax Commissioner supplies bills, delinquencies, tax sales, excess funds and refund channels. A billed name can lag a deed. Keep the tax year, owner mailing address and parcel location distinct. For older years or blocked web results, call the assessor or Tax Commissioner at 770-822-8800 and ask whether the series is archived or available by request.

Snellville Court Indexes and Files

The Gwinnett case-search gateway separates Superior, State, Magistrate and Probate estate matters from Recorder's Court. re:SearchGA is another document channel, but a portal summary is not the official file. Capture the case number, party role and court division, then ask the right clerk for the docket or a certified copy. A docket is the chronological list of filings and court events.

Snellville Municipal Court has no verified public party-name index. A known citation disposition goes through the city GovQA category with the citation number and date of birth. Recorder's Court has its own portal for county citations. Federal cases use PACER or the Northern District of Georgia clerk, whose published services include name searches, copies and certification.

Case captions can style names as plaintiff and defendant, petitioner and respondent, or decedent and estate. An allegation is not a ruling. Sealed, juvenile and adoption files remain restricted even when a case number is known.

Can a booking number help locate a case? Yes. Jail results may show a court case, warrant or citation number that is more precise than an abbreviated name. Confirm the resulting disposition with the court file.

Snellville Vital Record Eligibility

Georgia DPH holds statewide births and deaths from January 1919 and marriage applications from June 1952 through August 1996. Marriages outside that span belong with the issuing Probate Court; divorce decrees stay with the Superior Court that granted them. O.C.G.A. §31-10-26 and Rule 511-1-3-.33 restrict certificate release to applicants with a direct and tangible interest.

The official birth-record request channel explains applicant eligibility and required support:

Snellville public records access through Georgia birth application

Mail requests need the application, acceptable photo ID, relationship proof and payment. The March 2026 fee page lists $25 for a first birth or death certificate and $5 for same-order copies; a marriage search and first certified result is $10, with $5 same-order copies. Searches are nonrefundable even when no record is found. Online shipping and processing charges are separate.

Eligibility first. Georgia does not publish a blanket rule that all birth or death certificates open after a fixed number of years. Historical indexes and transferred archive collections follow separate access paths.

Snellville Custody Record Lookups

Gwinnett Jail View searches current county custody by name and booking date. Results can include booking and MNI numbers, status, booking time, charges, statutes, bonds, holds, arresting agency and case, citation or warrant numbers.

Record the lookup date. Booking is not conviction, and custody, bond and release estimates change. Sheriff Records at 2900 University Parkway handles county accident, incident and arrest reports by counter, email or request; Snellville Police reports remain in city GovQA.

The Georgia DOC offender search covers state custody by name, description, GDC ID, case number and age:

Try the first four surname letters and the All Offenders option when an exact search fails. GDC warns that data may be incomplete, so written verification remains available through Inmate Records.

The GBI registry search is a separate statutory record set with conditions of use:

Registry data updates continuously, protected victim identity is withheld, and a profile should not be stretched beyond its stated verification fields.

Snellville Records Offices and Portals

These three offices form the main counter network for Snellville records. Call first when a portal does not publish its coverage, price or archive status.

What Georgia Records Law Redacts

The Georgia Open Records Act favors access to existing records, but it also works with specific confidentiality laws. A custodian may redact protected fields and release the rest. Common limits include Social Security numbers, account and medical data, month and day of birth, protected government-worker addresses, Safe at Home locations and motor-vehicle personal information.

Some whole files or categories have tighter rules. Juvenile, adoption, sealed and restricted case material is not opened merely by a broad request. Military discharges require care. Current vital certificates require eligibility. An agency also need not create a new spreadsheet, answer questions or conduct research when the requested compilation does not already exist.

Ask for the releasable portion and the exact legal authority for anything withheld. That gives the custodian room to redact instead of treating one sensitive field as a reason to deny every page.

Snellville Search and Copy Costs

Under O.C.G.A. §50-18-71, letter- or legal-size copies generally may cost up to 10 cents per page. Other media can be charged at actual cost. Search, retrieval and redaction labor may be billed at the prorated rate of the lowest-paid qualified employee, after the first 15 minutes. Prepayment may be required when estimated charges exceed $500.

Specialized records have separate schedules. Gwinnett Probate's January 15, 2026 fee book lists a $10 estate search, $1 copy, $10 certification under seal and $15 exemplification. Federal court name searches and certification follow the Northern District's own schedule. Dynamic vendor image prices for GSCCCA and re:SearchGA were not verified, so obtain a current estimate before ordering.

A portal print can support personal research. If a transaction, estate matter or formal filing requires authentication, ask whether the receiving party needs the custodian's seal or eCertification.

Requesting Snellville Public Records

Any person may request existing records under the Georgia Open Records Act, O.C.G.A. §§50-18-70 through 50-18-77; state residency is not required. Oral requests are allowed, but writing preserves scope and enforcement rights. The three-business-day rule requires production when available or a response stating the timetable and legal basis for withholding. It is not a promise that every large request will be completed in three days.

The Georgia Attorney General publishes open-records request guidance:

Snellville public records request guidance under Georgia law

A clear request follows the record from identification through delivery:

  1. Identify the creator and custodian. Confirm whether the address is inside Snellville and which court or county division owns the record.
  2. Check the official index, then capture a case, parcel, citation or document number when one appears.
  3. Submit through the designated GovQA category, email, mail or counter. Give names, date range, record type and desired electronic or paper format.
  4. Ask for an estimate and distinguish inspection, plain copies and certification. Narrow a costly request to named documents or a tighter date span.
  5. If access is denied, request the specific exemption. The Attorney General's mediation program or Superior Court action provides the enforcement route.

Lawful personal use. Access does not grant permission to stalk, harass, threaten or expose protected people. Keep each record in its dated administrative context and verify it with the custodian.
